No, but you do need to see a clinician who can recommend which type of scan is best and subsequently explain the meaning of the scan findings.
Which scan is best for hip or knee pain?
Xray is best to assess for osteoarthritis or a fracture (break in the bone).
MRI is best for assessing the soft tissues such as tendons, ligament and muscles around a joint.
CT is best to assess bone deformity, alignment and may be useful for surgical planning.
